FRIDAY, JANUARY 30, 2009 Neckface is Creepin...
Vans collaborator NECKFACE has been lurking around LA a lot recently. Last weekend I snagged a couple photos of a Harley he painted at New Image Gallery’s 15th Anniversary Show. Enjoy my crappy photos.
Next thing you know, he’s painting all over BARRACUDA. on Melrose. (These are good photos=not mine.) See more photos of him making LA highly gorgeous on SUPERTOUCH.

First of all, this is amazing. Second of all, THIS AIN’T REAL so don’t try this at home. I sent Andrew Lehmann, the star and creator of this video a couple of questions about it. So here goes: NIKKI: How did you do that? Excellent editing? Where’d you get the idea for this short? ANDREW: Yes it was editing I did. I dont know if u have seen the viral ad Kobe Bryant did, but he...

A bunch of kids at Sandra Day O’Connor High School in Phoenix, Arizona taught by one Mr. Cunningham made this stop-motion video for their class. Since when are school projects fun? I bet “Mr. Cunningham” drinks beer sometimes and has a dog. OooOoooooOOo!!!!! (The guys did a pretty good job with the sound, too.)

Serious Vans Tattoos
I’ve met a couple of guys on Myspace who have some serious Vans lifetime dedication. Well, now they do anyway ‘cause they have HUGE Vans tattoos. Pretty epic. Crishall is a tattoo artist at Sick Creations in West Deptford, NJ. He did these waffle soles walking on his best buddy John’s side. Look at the top of the pic. That little brown-looking stuff is armpit hair. That is not...

Coni Oppo (OH, NO!) Custom Vans
I’d venture to say its appropriate to post some custom Obama-llama Vans today. I just happened to run across these earlier this week along with the artist who made them. Hey so..uh….what the crud does Coni Oppo mean? Unless you’re up on your Latin medieval alchemy, you’re off the hook on that one. I caught up with custom LA custom sneaker designer and artist M. Johnai...

Adam Wallacavage is All Up in Sao Paulo
Photographer, artist, octopus chandelier-maker Adam Wallacavage has been in Brazil for about a week for a show he’s got with Jim Houser, Tara McPherson, and Doze Green. If you’re in the area see it for yourself at Choque Cultural Gallery. If you happen to be a tad pinched for time/mad loot and can’t hop plane to Brazil then enjoy the nice pictures he’s been taking on...

Custom Vans by Craig Roccanova
With a name like Craig Roccanova, I’d expect this guy to be a club promoter or a boxer or something. (“Ey! Yo! Roccanova! Get ovah heyahh!” See what I mean?) Alas, his life’s mission will (probably) have less hair gel and shiny shirts. He’s an artist. Here’s what the 21-year-old Huntington Beach resident had to say about his work:
“I have been drawing...

KAWS sends Warm Regards
Vans collaboration alumni KAWS posted photos on his blog last week of the Warm Regards Bar. His dog, Dottie, acted as test pilot. It appears to work well.
I’m sure you’ll be seeing this doodad (this week is all about the fecal references, eh?) in art boutiques soon. The Warm Regards mural first showed up in the Beautiful Losers Exhibition at the OC Museum of Art in 2005.
What...

Randoms from the Toy Box
People like toys. (I’m slinging profundities like hash in the new year.) We got this puzzle featuring a rather majestic-looking pair of Authentics from the Maritime Hotel as a holiday card. Then I found that Build-A-Bear not only has, Urban Skater (what??!!), but the bear can also have its own checkerboard slip-ons.
Ok. This led me to the fact that people like buying toys for...

Skateboard Jive: Lost Hit? Not Anymore.
In December I posted a plea for someone to try digging up the song Skateboard Jive, released by The Mixtures during the mid to late 1970s. A couple of readers got into the mission for a hot minute when I promised a free pair of Vans in return for a link to the song. However, Jamie Goodsell is the guy who eventually located the track & posted it on Myspace. He’s a vinyl collector,...

If The Vans Blog Had A Crush On Another Blog
I think this blog would have to crush on GNARLITUDE.COM. This girl Jen Hanley, who is a talented enough author that I actually read her blog, muses about her love of Lemmy, Max Schaaf, 60’s & 70’s Rock & Roll, skate stuff, and absurdly expensive couture that I could never afford. And art. It’s a nice stroll through a life of contradictions… and ain’t that...

Mike Giant's Custom 4130 Bike
After a fantastical-fantasy vacation over the last few days spent not more than 10 miles from my house at any given time, I return to you guys with a bunch of stuff to pull your ear about. Let’s talk about Mike Giant. He and his company, Rebel 8, PARTNERED WITH US for a collection in Vans Core for Holiday 2008. Mike keeps busy for sure. I mean, now he’s got the cover of the newest...
